Instructions for Your Essay

 

The scholarship essay is a required element of your application for a scholarship. Essays must be your original work, created solely for the purpose of this scholarship competition.

 

Format

The essay should be created with a word processor according to the following specifications:

  • Line spacing: double-spaced

  • Margins: one-inch margins left/right/top/bottom

  • Font: 12 pt. Arial

  • Length:  400 - 600 words

 

We suggest that you divide your essay into the following sections:

  • Education and Career Plans

  • What You Would Like to Accomplish in the Future

  • How You Spend Your Leisure Time

  • Challenges that You Face in Your Life

  • Why this Scholarship is Important to You

 

Content

The essay should provide information about your education and career objectives, future goals, and interests and activities outside of school. You should include any personal information about family circumstances, experiences, or challenges that have had an effect on your life, and that you would like the selection committee to know about. You should describe any service that you have contributed to your family, school, or  community. The committee is interested in knowing why the Dollars for Scholars scholarship is important to you.

 

Submitting Your Essay

Submit your essay using the web form below. To use this method, first create your essay as a word processing file. Save the file before copying and pasting it into the form. You may need to do a little editing in the form. When you are finished copying and editing your essay, click on the submit button. You will receive a confirmation message of your submission. You should print this message for your records.
